Community Engagement Event in Koni and Kablo for the 200 MW Konikablo Wind Farm

On Monday, 24th June 2019, two community engagement events took place in relation to the development of our 200 MW Konikablo Wind Farm, one in Koni and a second one at Kablo. More than 80 persons showed up in total to be informed on the progress of the project in their neighbourhood. The project developers, NEK Umwelttechnik AG and Upwind Konikablo Ltd., presented the current state, the benefits of the planned wind farm for the involved communities and local population and answered also the questions coming from the attendees.

A presentation of the project and a video about wind farms together with the delivery of the so far issued Community Newsletters for Konikablo completed the event. Landholders of the required area for the project were previously identified and informed, and pillaring of the two project sites has started recently. Several questions regarding farming beside the operation of the wind farm could get answered from the experts of NEK/Upwind. Our Community Liaison Team invited all people with further questions to their field office in Ayitepa.

The involved communities are highly interested that this project will create local labour opportunities for skilled and less educated persons. Furthermore, the attendees of the event were asked for possible projects for our Community Engagement Plan, similar to the 3-unit classroom block of the Hearts of the Father Outreach which was already financially supported by the project developer NEK Umwelttechnik AG and ENERCON GmbH. It turned out that support for education and farming are the most prominent needs of the population.

A further Community Engagement Event is scheduled for the months to come.
