On September 24, 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for grid access of the 200MW Konikablo Wind Farm has been signed between Upwind Konikablo Ltd. and the Ghanaian grid operator GRIDCo. This agreement is the basis to connect the Konikablo Wind Farm under development in the Greater Accra Region to the nearby 330kV grid.

The results of a comprehensive grid impact study, which was carried out by GRIDCo during the past months, showed that the transmission system can easily evacuate all of the produced electricity of the Konikablo Wind Farm once this will become operational. Our calculations show that the wind farm will produce approx. 500 - 600 GWh of clean and reliable electricity every year.

The 330kV line, which trespasses the project area, connects through Ghana the surrounding countries of Togo and Ivory Coast, what offers the possibility to not only sell the electricity to Ghanaian offtakers, but also look into the possibility to export the energy in collaboration with the West African Power Pool (WAPP).

The Konikablo Wind Farm is developed by NEK under an Investment Agreement signed with the largest manufacturer of turbines in Germany, the Aurich based company Enercon GmbH. Enercon will deliver the turbines for this project, will construct the facility and subsequently also operate the wind farm. It is scheduled that the project will be operational by the end of 2021 / beginning of 2022.
